November is National Hospice & Palliative Care Month, a time to honor the heart and soul of UpliftedCare—our extraordinary team. Every day, you bring compassion and community connection to the forefront of your work. This month, we’re shining a light on the stories that define who we are: moments that remind us why we do what we do. We’ve asked our team to reflect on their personal journeys and share what it means to uplift others through care. These reflections will be featured throughout November, celebrating the spirit of UpliftedCare and the people who make it truly special.

What keeps you rooted in this work – even on the hardest days?

“The biggest “root” is the impact you make in the quality of people’s lives, not only patients but also their loved ones. The family you make with your coworkers also plays a big part. Patients and families can really welcome you as one of their own because of the difference you make in their lives, and your work family knows the struggles and can really support and encourage you to be the best you can be.”

Is there a moment from your work that stands out to you as especially meaningful or human?

“A moment that really stands out is when a Spanish speaking patient held my hand, looked at me with tears in her eyes and thanked me for providing the care that I did in the language that she understood. “

When people express their fears of hospice to you, how do you help “redefine” their perception?

“I educate them that death is a shared experience that every human will have to experience, hospice is a blessing that not everyone has- it gives you a chance to have a peaceful and comfortable passing.”

How has working in hospice/palliative care changed your perspective on life, family or community?

“Witnessing end of life moments, you see what’s really important at the end of the day – family, loved ones, and having a lived a life you feel is fulfilled.”

Is there a moment or person who reminded you why you chose this work?

“My aunt recently passed on service. She was young and healthy so a cancer diagnosis was very unexpected. Luckily, she had a big family and support system, however it makes me think about patients that may find themselves in similar unexpected situations but are not fortunate enough have a big support system. We can be that support and that’s why I love what I do.”
